National Selections for the Cannes Young Lions 2011  Competition

The most dynamic part of the Cannes Lions International Creativity Festival - is the Young Lions Competition. This year, national selections for the competition are organized by “Milliyet” (Cannes International Creativity Festival Representative for Turkey) and the Foundation of Advertising (Foundation of Professional Research, Development and Education in Advertising) - “Reklamcilik Vakfi” with the support of Marketing Türkiye.

The competition creates an opportunity for the young creatives and young marketers to:

  • participate in one of the most important international competitions,
  • represent their countries and
  • widen their visions


Application procedure and rules:

1. The competition is open to all competitors in print, cyber and film categories born after 25 June 1982 (28 years or under), who meet the conditions stated below.  

2. The competition is open to young marketing professionals from client companies, born after 25 June 1980.

3. The competition will be held in four categories: “Print Category”, (where the competing teams are made up of an art director and a copywriter), “Cyber Category”, (where the teams consist of a web designer and a copywriter), “Film Category” (where the teams are made up of an editor and a copywriter) and “Young Marketers” (two young marketers from a client organization)

4. As the festival management launched a new category last year, the young marketers teams will be expected to produce a brief that would be presented to an advertising agency. Teams will be judged on the clarity of the brief in terms of the level of knowledge about the product or service, their organization and its aims, as well as the aims of this specific campaign.

5. A maximum of 40 teams in the “Print Category”, 40 teams in the “Cyber Category”, 10 teams in the “Film Category” and 25 teams in the “Young Marketers”  will be accepted. If the number of applications for each section of the competition exceeds maximum number stated, there will be an open draw at the Foundation of Advertising Headquarters.

  • The members of 37 teams in the Print Competition and the 9 teams in the Film Competition must be employed in an advertising agency that is a member of the Turkish Association of Advertising Agencies – “Reklamcilar Dernegi”.
  • A total of two competition places of theese numbers are reserved for agencies belonging to Ankara Advertising Association and Izmir Advertising Association. One team, members of which are employed by a member agency of Ankara Advertising Association and one team, members of which are employed by a member agency of Izmir Advertising Association can participate in the Print Category.
  • This year, 3 teams in the Print Competition and 1 team in the Film Competition that are members of “Reklam Yaraticilari Dernegi” will also be accepted.
  • Candidates in the Cyber Category must be cyber creatives employed by a company or in an institution.
  • Winners of the previous years for the hall categories can not be attend with the same team members.

7. The candidates have to fill in the application forms on www.rv.org.tr. As explained in the application form, the candidates have to attach their scanned identification cards (“nüfus cüzdani”) and the receipt of the participation fee to the application form.

The participation fee (for the Print and Cyber Categories: 175 TL // for the Film Competition: 225 TL // for the Young Marketers: 225 TL) has to be sent to:

8. The participation fee will be refunded if there are more applications then stated and the candidate is not chosen in the open draw.   

9. It is obligatory that at least one member of the team has very good command of English.

10. The 1st place team’s visa procedures should be completed within 10 work days. If not, the 2nd place team’s members will have the right to compete in Cannes and they will be expected to complete their visa procedures within 10 days.

11. The brief for the print and cyber categories belong to an NGO. NGO may want to use the works of the first, second and third place winners of the categories. Winners will translate their ads bodycopies for NGO’s usage. No fee is required for this usage.

Important notice:

  • The first place winners of the previous competitions cannot participate in the competition again.
  • Members of one team, who took part in previous competitions, cannot build the same team again for the third time.

The challenge of the “Print Category” is to produce a print ad within 24 hours, while the candidates of the “Cyber Category” have to create a cyber ad within 24 hours. The candidates of the “Film Competition” have 48 hours to shoot and edit a 30 second commercial, filmed entirely on a cellular telephone will be provided by the organizers. Young Marketers will also have 24 hours to submit their works. The young marketers teams will be expected to produce a brief that would be presented to an advertising agency. Teams will be judged on the clarity of the brief in terms of the level of knowledge about the product or service, their organization and its aims, as well as the aims of this specific campaign.

Awards:


The 1st place team in each category will be entitled to participate in the Young Lions International Competition in Cannes.

The four 1st place teams will be invited to the 2011 Cannes Lions International Creativity Festival by Milliyet. Flight, accommodation costs and registration fees for Cannes Lions Festival will be covered by Milliyet.
